From 1966 onwards, Otto Muehl placed the human body and its emancipatory possibilities at the centre of his actions in his so-called Material Actions and defined it as an explicit space for action. Here, Muehl further developed his specific material language, paraphrasing classical subjects from art history and staging bodies and objects, increasingly including food.
