During Lange Nacht der Museen, the WAM will present a performance by Mexican artist Guadalupe Aldrete.
At the same time, there will be hourly highlight tours of the current exhibition WHAT IS VIENNA ACTIONISM? in German and English.
at 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, 9:00 PM, 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM
The Mexican performance artist Guadalupe Aldrete uses her body as an artistic tool to experiment, much like the Vienna Actionists (above all Günter Brus). Some elements of the works exhibited in the museum have played an important role in the artist’s work for many years. In her performance chamber III. through the surface for the Long Night of the Museums, Aldrete will draw on these elements, attempting to (re)present the experiences of her ancestors that her own body still remembers, while at the same time establishing a connection with the works in the collection. In this way, she attempts to build a bridge between the generations and to promote an understanding of intergenerational memory and, ultimately, cultural heritage.

Sweat an Blood
“Sweat and Blood” explores themes of inner emigration — personal alienation from oppressive systems — amid sensory overload and mental escapism, blending social critique and personal trauma, while confronting today’s normalization of war through subtle acts of withdrawal rather than confrontation.

Four Actions
With its second exhibition, the WAM is now going into greater depth. The opening exhibition WHAT IS VIENNA ACTIONISM? first offered an overview of the multi-layered developments of this movement in the 1960s, whereby the individual actions were only presented with exemplary photos. Now, under the title FOUR ACTIONS, an exhibition series is being launched that presents selected actions with all the available historical material. In this way, it will be possible for the first time to understand the actions in all their detail. The aim of the exhibition is to open up new perspectives on the reception of Vienna Actionism through the precise examination of individual actions.
