BOOK PRESENTATION AND TALK

14/09/2024, 6:00 PM, Wiener aktionismus Museum

Although many still consider Vienna Actionism to be a bourgeois phenomenon, it is now beyond debate that it is not only one of the most important and high-quality achievements of Austrian art, but also made a highly significant contribution to the avant-garde developments of the 1960s that expanded the concept of art.

The publication WHAT IS VIENNA ACTIONISM? is being published to coincide with the first exhibition of the same name at the Vienna Actionism Museum, which opens in March 2024, and is intended to serve as a long-term introduction to this important and complex artistic movement.

In terms of content, the texts in the publication focus on the period between 1957 and the early 1970s and provide brief glimpses of the period that followed.
The respective developments of the four main representatives are traced, the important role played by the media of photography and film in this movement is discussed in detail and then a look is taken from the perspective of the 2000s at the significance of Vienna Actionism for the development and current state of performative art.

The authors Eva Badura-Triska (Chief Curator WAM), Julia Moebus-Puck (Director WAM) and Lisa Moravec (author and curator) together with Philipp Konzett (Managing Director WAM) will present the forthcoming book on the exhibition WHAT IS VIENNA ACTIONISM?
This will be followed by a round table discussion.

The book, WHAT IS VIENNA ACTIONISM? can be pre-ordered on this evening at a 20% discount.
