Opening of the Wiener Festwochen
The Wiener Festwochen under the direction of Milo Rau proclaimed the “Free Republic of Vienna” on 17 May in Vienna’s Rathausplatz. Among other things, Rau refers to classical modernism and its Austrian representatives such as Klimt, Kokoschka and Schiele, in whose tradition Vienna Actionism also sees itself. Pussy Riot activist Diana Burkot refers to this in her statement – as WAM, we once again see confirmation of how important this museum is for the development of contemporary art and culture.
